17.02.2024 12:00 / Narva Castle's Northern Yard

Event overview

In 2024, Estonia celebrates the "Year of Cultural Diversity." On this occasion, Narva Museum invites everyone on February 17 to discover Estonian Vastlapäev, Russian Maslenitsa, and Ukrainian Syrnytsia Nedilia. These spring festivals symbolize the end of winter and the arrival of spring, showcasing unique traditions that bring people together.

The event will be held in Narva Castle's Northern Yard, offering folk games, dances, traditional snacks, and workshops for all ages.

A highlight is the lecture "Maslenitsa: Why Pancakes?" at 13:30 in the castle's tea room. It explores the traditions behind the festivals, focusing on the significance of pancakes in Maslenitsa, connections to Forgiveness Sunday, and unique aspects of each celebration, with tea served by museum expert Yulia Khlystun.

Free admission to the Northern Yard activities.
Entrance to the castle and lecture: €5. Buy ticket
