Event overview

Tales of the former beauty of pre-war Narva still paint astonishing images of a city with low whitewashed houses adorned with carved portals, narrow cobblestone streets, and ornate weather vanes glittering in the sunlight.

Although old Narva exists today only in photographs and film archives, many of its elements are carefully preserved within the museum's walls.

The Narva Museum invites everyone to the "Unforgotten City" exhibition tour, dedicated to the unique architecture of pre-war Narva. During the tour, you'll immerse yourself in the history and atmosphere of Old Narva, learning about the main features that adorned the buildings. The preserved fragments and your imagination will help recreate a comprehensive picture of this beautiful city and its life.

You'll also discover some mysteries of local culture: for instance, the connection between the sculptures that adorned the portal of the Narva town hall and the ornate loops on its door, what the lion sculpture on the portals of Narva houses symbolized, why the weather vanes on the roofs of Narva buildings were dangerous, the purpose of wooden sculptures in churches, and many more.
