03.01.2023 Commemoration of the fallen of the War of Independence
On 3 January, the fallen in the War of Independence are commemorated on Narva's Peetri Square.
The War of Independence was an armed conflict between the Republic of Estonia and Soviet Russia, which lasted from 28 November 1918 until 2 February 1920. On 31 December 1919, Estonia and Soviet Russia signed an armistice, which entered into force on 3 January 1920. The war officially ended with the Tartu Peace Treaty on 2 February 1920, when Soviet Russia recognised Estonia's independence and renounced all Russian rights to Estonian territory for ever.
The collection of Narva Muusem preserves a number of museum objects related to the War of Independence. Among them is a medal designed by August Timus "In Memory of the Estonian War of Independence (1918-1920)".
