Tha exhibition "Past and present of the votians"
Event overview
This exhibition is an attempt to reevaluate a part of Narva Museum's post-war exhibition. During those years, the museum was located in a building that used to be a military bathhouse, built in the 1850s. In December 1986, the museum moved to Narva Castle, and in 1990, the old building was demolished.
Part of that exhibition featured the burial of a woman dating back to the 11th-13th centuries. This particular showcase sparked interest in archaeology among many. However, the exhibition did not provide information about the woman herself, her people, and their culture. The exhibition "Past and Present of Vozha" partially corrects this injustice. Who was this woman? To which ethnic group did she belong? What did her costume look like? And how do her likely descendants live among us today?
The exhibition was prepared with the support of the Eesti Kultuurkapital Foundation and the Society of Votian Culture.
