Guided tour of the 'Model of Old Narva' exhibition
We invite you to take a journey into the past, imagining yourselves as residents of pre-war Narva, and stroll through the narrow streets of what was once one of the most beautiful cities in Estonia. The 'Model of Old Narva' exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore all the pre-war buildings that no longer exist on the city's map, admire the grandeur of the sacral structures, and marvel at the architectural uniqueness of a city with a complex yet fascinating history!
The exhibition highlights two historical peaks of the city's glory with a focus on its future. The years 1684 and 1984, chosen for display in the exhibition, symbolize Narva's former prosperity, while 2034 represents the city's near future. By comparing these two peaks of the city's glory, the identity of Narva is revealed in all its complexity. Modern Narva, as we know it, was built twice: in the second half of the 17th century, a magnificent trading city was erected, and from the ruins of World War II emerged an industrial city.
The years 1684 and 1984 are reflected in the exhibition with rare exhibits, original connections, and captivating encounters. The future of Narva awaits active participation from visitors. To facilitate this, the exhibition features numerous thematic installations that allow you, with your family, friends, or on your own, to actively contemplate Narva's future or even do something useful.
Nostalgia and regret for the bygone glory won't help Narva. Nevertheless, we can learn lessons from this experience for the future. Narva needs a future more than it needs the past!
