Exhibition "The Layered Narva" Opens at Narva Castle

On September 19, an exhibition titled "The Layered Narva" will open on the seventh floor of the tower at Narva Castle, immersing visitors in the dramatic history of this border town. The exhibition will tell the stories of its residents through biographical fragments and unique exhibits, including personal belongings of pre-war Narva residents.
Narva's location has brought both prosperity and suffering to the city. Its proximity to ancient trade routes attracted enterprising people from all over the world, contributing to the formation of a multicultural environment over the centuries. However, being on the border between Western and Eastern cultures also created constant threats and conflicts. Since its first mention in the 13th century, Narva has been destroyed multiple times, left empty, and then revived again. The history of Narva is the history of a border town.
The exhibition will showcase how the Narva Museum's collection and the biographies of its residents reflect the city's history over recent centuries. On one side, we will see the lives of Narva residents through objects, photographs, and stories from the museum’s collection, and on the other, the citizens themselves will tell us their stories.
The exhibition features personal belongings of pre-war Narva residents, which have been acquired by the museum over the past two years through various means. Among them is the Anniko family suitcase, used during their evacuation from Narva in 1944.
