Event overview

We invite you to the lecture “Shepherds, Magi, and the Miraculous Star,” held in the cozy atmosphere of the Narva Museum Art Gallery on December 15 at 14:00, just before the celebration of Christmas.

During the lecture, we will delve into the mysterious world of Nativity iconography, exploring how the main witnesses of this great event were depicted in the Eastern Christian tradition and Western European art. What was the Star of Bethlehem—was it a rare astronomical phenomenon, an angel, or Divine light? What do the animals and plants in Nativity icons symbolize? How has the depiction of this Gospel event evolved over the centuries?

You will learn about all of this during the lecture, which also includes an opportunity to view icons from the Narva Museum collection.
