Event overview
We invite you to Narva Castle on March 30th at 13:00 for an exciting lecture titled "Light and Shadows of the Spiritual World: Reflection of Vices and Virtues in Church Art."
On April 27th at 13:00, we invite you to embark on an exciting journey through Christian art to uncover the secrets of one of the most inspiring subjects – the Resurrection of Christ. What do the images that have become the symbol of victory over death and rebirth to new life hide?
In the lecture "The Light of the Resurrection: The Image of Easter in Eastern and Western Traditions," you will learn how Eastern iconography, through the image of "The Descent into Hell," conveyed the idea of salvation, while Western artists infused Resurrection scenes with drama and the symbolism of triumph. We will discuss how Easter traditions of different eras inspired artists to create immortal works.
The lecture will be presented by Yulia Khlystun (PhD), a research officer at Narva Museum and a scholar of sacred art, who will guide you through the mysteries and hidden messages left by the masters of the past.
