Lecture "Light and Shadows of the Spiritual World: Reflection of Vices and Virtues in Church Art" by Yulia Khlystun (PhD) (RUS)
Event overview
We invite you to Narva Castle on March 30th at 13:00 for an exciting lecture titled "Light and Shadows of the Spiritual World: Reflection of Vices and Virtues in Church Art."
What messages are encrypted in the frescoes that have shaped the ethical values of believers for centuries and which form the foundation of modern civilization? And most importantly, what did the artists want to convey by creating these symbols, accessible only to the initiated?
In this lecture, you will uncover the mysteries of sacred art that have been hidden on the walls of churches for centuries. You will learn how artists used the language of symbols to create hidden meanings, how frescoes nurtured virtues, and reminded about the dangers of the sinful path. Why did some images on the frescoes speak of redemption, while others warned of inevitable punishment?
These questions and more will be answered in the lecture "Light and Shadows of the Spiritual World: Reflection of Vices and Virtues in Church Art."
The lecture will be presented by Yulia Khlystun (PhD), a research officer at Narva Museum and a scholar of sacred art, who will guide you through the mysteries and hidden messages left by the masters of the past.
