Flag of Narva 1935

In 1934-1936, a significant effort was made in Estonia to standardize the flags and coats of arms of all local self-governments. In 1934, a corresponding design for the flag was submitted to the Narva City Council, where it was promptly approved. At a meeting held on May 28, 1935, the Narva City Council also decided to adopt the presented city flag.

According to the decision, the flag was to consist of two horizontal stripes, the upper of which was yellow and the lower one light blue. These colors were historically established in the charter of the Swedish king Johan III dated July 22, 1585, as the colors of the city.

In 1939, the Ministry of Internal Affairs managed to formalize the coats of arms and flags of all Estonian cities. In June 1940, the decree of the head of state, Konstantin Päts, on the coats of arms and flags of cities was supplemented with descriptions.

Unfortunately, due to the conditions of the state coup and the subsequent Soviet occupation, it was not possible to announce the decision. This process was only completed after the restoration of Estonia's independence in the early 1990s.
