Sacred Narva: The Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection
The Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection is one of the most outstanding monuments of sacred architecture in Narva. It was built for the employees of Kreenholm Manufacturing Company in 1896 in the neo-Byzantine architectural style. The church was miraculously preserved during the bombing of the city in 1944. The Resurrection Cathedral spans several eras, as it contains holy objects going back several centuries.
On the tour, we will talk about the relationship between the external and internal architecture of an Orthodox church. You will learn about how the church paintings of the Resurrection Cathedral are connected with the paintings by the outstanding artist Viktor Vasnetsov in the Cathedral of St. Vladimir in Kyiv. During the tour, we will climb up into the choirs lofts and the bell tower to view the cathedral and the city from a very special angle, and also visit the lower church.
The tour will be conducted by Yuliia Khlystun, an employee of the Narva Museum and a specialist in ecclesiastical art.
Cost: €15.
Tickets must be booked in advance.
