Lecture: The Secrets of Christmas Myths in the Mirror of Art (RUS)
Event overview
Many stories that have become deeply rooted in our consciousness and are now part of the Christmas holiday tradition actually have no direct connection to the Holy Scriptures. In this lecture, we will explore how these myths were born and how they found expression in painting, literature, and music.
We’ll talk about the mysterious fourth wise man, Artaban — a character not found in the Gospels, yet one who has lived a long life in art. We’ll look into apocryphal texts and discover which of their stories inspired artists and helped shape images that became part of our cultural memory.
This lecture offers a view of Christmas through the lens of myths, legends, and artistic interpretations that have shaped our understanding of this great holiday.
