Romantics - Rebels

The art collection of the Narva Museum provides a vivid opportunity to explore the turning point in 19th-century artistic and social life. Using examples from 18th–19th century painting and graphic art, we take a critical look at how the role of the artist evolved — from the Age of Enlightenment and the influence of the French Revolution to a shift toward the inner world of the individual, the irrational, and the forces of nature. After exploring the exhibitions, we build a bridge to the present day and reflect on our own ideals, the challenges of our time, and the roles that modern society places upon us.
