Medieval Livonia
We explore how a medieval city functioned and the role played by craftsmen and merchants. We examine objects and images, discuss the layout of streets, marketplaces, and city governance. Through a simple role-playing activity, participants experience a day in the life of a town resident and understand what everyday life in Livonia depended on. Military Narva
We talk about military leaders and battles that took place in Narva and shaped the city’s appearance. We examine fortifications, types of weapons, and soldiers’ uniforms from different periods. We discuss what victories and defeats meant for local residents. The session concludes with tasks in a worksheet. Key concepts: battle, army, history of Estonia
Historical Sources
Participants work with copies of documents and photographs, read captions and dates, and compare different sources. They formulate interpretations of events and identify which facts are confirmed and where questions remain. The results are recorded in a worksheet. Key concepts: source, document, historiography
